Weikko was born in a dim smoke sauna on the shores of Lake Saimaa, as probably many of his namesakes were in their time. But before Weikko was born, young trolling enthusiasts would gather in the same sauna every year and compete to see who was the toughest salmon man on the lake. Most of the time, it was just a steam bath and sometimes wrestling, but sometimes salmon were even bathed in the smoke sauna there.

These former young men founded the fishing group Weikkoset and swore an oath in the darkness of the smoke sauna - may this tradition continue. Over the years, wobblers, spoons and who knows what else were made. The tradition was that during the day the nail polish section of Sokos would be emptied and the night before the competition the fishing gear would be painted until the wee hours of the morning. Except for Markus, who was banned from making wobblers for life after he once mistakenly caught a salmon with his homemade product.

Inspired by the charm of crafting and the catches, the design of our own fishing hood came into play. Juho came up with the idea of ​​casting our own hoods out of epoxy - they were painted and decorated with all kinds of glitter and even fish came. We christened the hood the Epoxy-Weikko. The next Weikko was already made using 3D printing. After a couple of summers of successful tests, we started thinking about how to change the hood while swimming mid-cast. After numerous experiments, we decided to split the hood and hinge it. And after dozens of prototypes and tests, we were confident in the result. The hood received the final touches and the mold was ordered for production.

Now Weikko has been refined to its last detail and is ready for other fishermen to take on the real action. However, the development work will continue, who knows, even if Weikko goes backwards next season. Juho's knowledge would not surprise me at all. And next autumn we will see who will be sitting on the highest bench in the smoke sauna in the evening with the coveted trophy in their lap - dressed only in Weikko.
